Barak and Chickens Win in California

As much as I'd love to celebrate this morning.  I cannot.

For those of you who are married...think about waking up this morning next to your spouse.  Your clock radio announces the victory of Barak Obama over John McCain, a high-speed rail system has been approved, a cruelty to animals bill passed overwhelmingly, and you and your spouse are no longer legally married.  Your marriage is null and void.  That's right, the people of California (or more acurately UTAH) have decided that you and your spouse don't have the right to be married.

That happened to friends of mine this morning.

That's correct - it turns out that the rights of chickens is more important than the rights of Gay and Lesbians in California.

That's fucked up.

Amen. It's completely fucked up. I hope and pray something more can be done.

Of all the states, you'd think CA would be one of the first to get their heads out of their asses. Perhaps, it's TOO diverse for that, in ethnicity, thought, and progressiveness (or lack thereof).

This is the biggest stain on the election results, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. Sad state of affairs. Our family did what we could to bring Prop 8 down. We had our signs up, my wife wore her shirt whenever we could, we made it clear to our devout Christian/Republican neighbor that intolerance was NOT OK. My wife even went as far as to help our 6 yr old daughter understand what we were pushing for.

I'm part of an inter-racial, inter-faith marriage. There was a time we couldn't even think of getting married. We shouldn't even have to fight for stuff like this.

Sadly, it shows how much of California isn't liberal. I always tell my friends here, how we think in the Bay Area is VASTLY different that most of the country, even in the state. I'm sure parts like Central California are as ignorant and intolerant as many parts of the Bible belt. The voting results showed that.

As late as Monday night, a local (Menlo Park) Baptist church has been keeping a Yes on 8 sign in front. Bear in mind that this is a designated polling place. We (along with our neighbors) raised a ruckus with the city council and the sign was removed that night. Nice to see tolerance in the Church...
